What Is a Dental Emergency?

A dental emergency is when you have a chipped tooth, a loose crown and or a mild toothache. Arrow Dental Center is one of the only dentists in the Monroe area that is open 6 days a week for all your dental emergencies. Give us a call for same day treatment or to be worked in that same day.
Save the Tooth!

Tip:

A crown is generally placed to protect an area in the mouth. If broken, replace the crown with temporary dental repair paste until you make an appointment. Similarly, if you lose a filling, the same temporary material can fill the tooth to prevent decay. Both of these require an appointment to be repaired but are not considered emergencies.

Think ahead.

Post our telephone number (318) 361-0381 where it can be easily found. Add it to your other emergency numbers for doctors, etc. Remember! We are open on Saturdays for emergencies!

Still Not Sure?

Are you experiencing any of the following?

  • Bleeding
  • Severe pain
  • Loose teeth
  • Trauma (hit in the face or mouth)
  • Face/mouth swelling
  • Swelling, bulging tissue, “knots” on your gums

If you are dealing with any of these things, you may need emergency dentistry.

Toothache

Mild toothaches may be relieved by flossing, rinsing with warm water, or simply brushing. Gum swelling, fever, or other signs of illness accompanying severe tooth pain may indicate a serious medical condition. Call our office right away. If the office is closed, please listen carefully for emergency instructions.

Broken or Cracked Tooth

Even without pain, a broken or cracked tooth can lead to complicated issues. Rinse carefully with warm water and apply a cold pack to decrease swelling. Call us to evaluate the tooth. During office hours, including Saturdays, we will see you on the day you call.

Trauma and Lost Tooth

In cases where a tooth has been knocked out, save the tooth safely. Rinse it in warm water — do not scrub — and attempt to replace the tooth in the gum. If you can’t, put the tooth in a container with milk to preserve it and call us ASAP. You’ll be asked to bring the tooth with you to your appointment.

Bitten Tongue, Lip, or Inner Cheek

Generally, these are minor issues, but if the area won’t stop bleeding, call us and be prepared to go to a hospital emergency department.

Facial Trauma

Facial trauma, including potentially broken cheekbone or jaw, require immediate care. Apply cold compresses and go the nearest emergency room.

When in doubt, give us a call at (318) 361-0381. Our Saturday hours provide additional time for emergency dental visits on the weekend! Contact us today with any questions!
